Why We Care
According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, globally, almost two-thirds of sex-trafficked victims come from Asia. However, because of a cultural stigma surrounding sex trafficking, the issue is rarely mentioned in the Asian American community. With many of our members and leaders identifying with an Asian American heritage, Future Unchained takes strides to empower victims suffering from commercial sexual exploitation among the Asian American community and educating others. It is equally important to our organization that we inspire and prepare the next generation of Asian-Americans leaders to combat human trafficking and provide much-needed services to victims in order to reintegrate them into our society.
Our programs employ a multi-faceted approach to fighting human trafficking and assisting victims. Ranging from outreach workshops and community service to presentations at local schools, Future Unchained is always looking for the best way to talk about and combat trafficking.
Our Mission Cont.
What makes victims of human trafficking particularly vulnerable is the fact that the repercussions of trafficking come in many different forms. Some are trafficked to other countries and continents whereas others are mentally scarred for the rest of their lives. Due to language barriers, psychological fear, and legal repercussions (just to name a few of the difficulties in victims' lives), many victims lack the ability and resources to seek help. Of those who fall victim to trafficking, only 1% are rescued. A lack of media coverage and education are two contributing factors to this depressing statistic.
It is easy to sweep this issue under the rug given these despairing circumstances, but we aim to bring these victims to light.
