After our successful kickoff workshop at Arcadia High School, Future Unchained
hosted our second human trafficking awareness workshop at Flintridge Preparatory
School in collaboration with Journey Out. The one-month gap period between our two
workshops gave Flora and I adequate time to prepare our script as well as coordinate with the school.
In order to reach out to more people about the upcoming workshop, I sent mass emails
to the student body and faculty at Flintridge Prep, designed posters, and posted information about the event on social media.
Flora and I also brought snacks and beverages to the event. The snacks were
not only for the students who attended the workshop, but also directed towards a bake sale
with “Feminism Club” on the day of the event. With everything coordinated, we were ready to
go!
Despite technical difficulties, the event exceeded our expectations. We had over
thirty attendees, student and faculty members included, and ended up raising more than
eighty dollars for our bake sale. We are deeply motivated to see the willingness of the Prep
community to learn about and actively help combat this issue. With more than four school
offers waiting ahead, we can’t wait to share our common passion for this cause to more
schools and neighborhoods around the Southern California area.
